How to obtain Planning permission

Planning maybe needed, particularly if you live in a conservation area. If you do require planning permission, this will need to be granted before any build work can commence. The approval process normally takes 6 to 8 weeks. Approval will be granted subject to any appeals from local residents, if there is no opposition then planning will be granted. Once planning is granted it will normally be valid for three years, so you will need to start the build work within this period.

Permitted development is a preset agreed amount by which you can develop your property without having to apply for planning.  It is measured on volume, 40 cubic for terraced houses and 50 cubic for semi detached and detached houses.
